Vanessa Bates
Vanessa’s plays include: Porn. Cake (Malthouse Theatre), Checklist For An Armed Robber (Vitalstatistix, theatre@risk, Belvoir B-Sharp, Deckchair Theatre) Hunger (Griffin Theatre) Match (Tantrum Theatre) and Darling Oscar (Sydney Theatre Company, Black Swan Theatre). For fringe/independent theatre, plays include The Night We Lost Jenny (New Theatre), Confetti (Stories from the 428), Homemade (New Theatre) At Sea and Petunia Takes Tea (both Short and Sweet and The Miniaturists in London.) She has had several plays commissioned and produced by ABC Radio National.
For television, Vanessa has written for drama series Rush and East West 101. She received an AWGIE nomination for 900 Neighbours (ABCTV). She is currently working on Love Struck Juliet, a screenplay.
Vanessa is a NIDA Playwrights Studio graduate and one seventh of playwrights’ company 7-ON. Porn. Cake was selected for development in the PWA National Script Workshop 2010 and staged by the Malthouse in 2011. Every Second, originally workshopped with Edward Albee and winner of Inscription’s Chairman’s Award was selected for the 2012 National Play Festival .
