Jeremy Johnson
Jeremy Johnson graduated from NIDA (acting) in 1984. His first play ‘Helen Keller - The Musical’ was described by the critic in SMH as “The most disgusting thing I have ever seen on stage.” Jeremy went on to found La Luna Youth Theatre in Townsville, and co-authored the TV mini-series ‘The Artificial Gods’ with Anthony Shaffer. He lived in Houston, Texas, for eight years, working as an actor, playwright and director on over 20 productions. He is a director of Songe Arts, a production company founded in 1996 that mounts well-constructed new stage works that sabotage convention in style and content.
Jeremy’s plays ‘Bohemian Grove’, ‘Direct From Broadway - Winner of 7 Tony’s’ and ‘Palace of Mention’ were produced in Houston and Austin. Jeremy and his wife Jewell produced and directed the short play festival 10X10 in Sydney 2000-2002. ‘Direct from Broadway’ was staged twice in Sydney and at Melbourne Fringe Festival. Other works include ‘Crystal Night’, ‘Barely Mammalian’, ‘Blotto’, ‘The Virtuoso, Parts I and II’, ‘The Sheltered Workshop’, ‘White Trash Nation’ and ‘Speak English or Die!’
