Alex Broun
Born in Sydney Alex has worked in theatre, TV and film as a writer, actor and director. He has had plays performed in the USA, South Africa, England and Australia. His plays include 'Vicious Streaks', 'Blind City', 'Pick Ups', 'Desire', 'Scenes From An Affair', 'Just Once' and 'Potential for Violence'. 'Pick Ups' was nominated for the Vita Award for Best New Play in South Africa in 1998 and 'Just Once' won the STC's Young Playwright's Scheme in 1985. 'Blind City' was performed at The Darlinghurst Theatre as part of the 2003 Sydney Festival. 'Pick Ups', 'Desire' and 'Scenes From An Affair' - are soon to be published under the title 'Fast Love'. Alex's new full length play 'The Jacaranda Tree' was shortlisted in the 2004 Rodney Seaborn Playwright's Award, received an Honourable Mention in the Virtual Theatre Project's International Play Competition of 2004 and was workshopped as a part of Theatrelab 2005. He has recently received funding from the Australian Film Commission to write a script based on the sinking of the Siev X in October 2001.
