Amelia Roper
A published playwright from Melbourne, now studying at the Yale School of Drama. Roper's first two plays won national writing awards, and her third, HONG KONG DINOSAUR, was an Emerging Artist Commission at the Melbourne Theatre Company (2009). HONG KONG DINOSAUR received further development & a public reading in New York City, with mentor Will Eno, thanks to the Australia Council's new Jump Mentoring Program (2010).
BIG SKY TOWN is published by Full Dress Publishing. It enjoyed two sold-out productions and a regional tour (2008/9), directed by Naomi Edwards and produced by St Martins Youth Arts Centre & The Arts Centre, Melbourne. BIG SKY TOWN won the St Martins Emerging Playwrights' Award and was listed on the Victorian secondary school syllabus for Drama. FLYWIRE won the MUST Tertiary Playwriting Award in 2003, followed by a sold-out production in 2005.
CAMBERWELL HOUSE enjoyed a sold-out season in April 2010, produced by Forty Forty Home, and a second Australian production in August 2010, directed by Andrew McMillan. It will soon be produced at the Union Theatre in London. Other work includes THE PICKLED LILY PROJECT (St Martins, 2005) and SHE RODE HORSES LIKE THE STOCK EXCHANGE, to be produced by the Yale School of Drama in 2011.
Amelia has a Bachelor of Arts (Double Majors History & English), from Monash University and is currently completing her Master of Fine Arts in Playwriting at Yale, under Paula Vogel and Doug Wright. Amelia is a member of the Australian Writers' Guild and the Dramatists Guild of America.
