Lachlan Philpott
Lachlan is a Sydney based writer. A graduate of University of NSW [BA], University of Sydney [Dip. Ed], The Victorian College of the Arts [Directing] and NIDA [Playwrights’ Studio], his passion for theatre was born through many years of involvement in Forest Youth Theatre Company. Lachlan has been a writer in residence at Griffin Theatre Company, Sydney [2010] and Red Stitch, Melbourne [2006]. His plays have been performed in Australia and The UK. They include Bustown, Bison, Catapult, Colder [winner R.E Ross Trust Award 2007], Due Monday, Ibis and Silent Disco [Winner Griffin Award 2009]. Lachlan has written several scripts for Amnesty International campaigns. He is currently under commission to develop PASSING with Focus Theatre, Sydney and Truck Stop at Q Theatre, Penrith.
Lachlan has also worked as a director and artistic director. He was Artistic Director of 2 til 5 Youth Theatre in Newcastle, leading the company’s transition to becoming the nationally recognised Tantrum Theatre. Lachlan established wreckedAllprods in Melbourne with long term collaborator Alyson Campbell. Campbell directed premieres of Bison (2000/2001) and Catapult (2003). Lachlan also teaches script writing. He tutored at Youth Interplay 2006, World Interplay 2007 and 2009, Interplay Africa [Kenya] 2008 and Interplay Europe [The Netherlands] 2008. He has guest tutored for both The Royal Court Young Writers’ Program and Postgraduate Diploma in Play Writing at Sydney’s NIDA. He is the Literary Associate at The Australian Theatre for Young People in Sydney where directs the FRESH INK emerging writers’ program.
