JUST LIKE THAT
by Stephen House
Bennett goes to the beach each day to sit and read the paper. One day a man dies in front of him on the jetty, and a stranger comes over to comfort him. But it's not a stranger, it's Clive, someone special Bennett knew nearly fifty years before. As Clive's reappearance throws havoc and distress into Bennett's long-time marriage to Mabelene, we see and feel the result of the past coming into the now, and the dramatic effect hidden secrets and lies can have.
Winner of the 2006 Messenger Press Light Year Award for Best New Script.
'A gritty, powerful piece that sees a relatively happy, normal couple find their relationship has been built on a foundation of quicksand.' Matt Byrne, Adelaide Sunday Mail, 6 Sept 2006
'Stephen House's gently-observed script is in a different key to the turbulent guignol of his recent works...but it suits his purpose well... A perceptive and carefully-weighted three-hander.' Murray Bramwell, Adelaide Review, Oct 2006
