WILL SHAKESPEARE

by Garth Chamberlain

Shakespeare, arriving in London with a passionate desire for acting is befriended by another playmaker, Christopher Marlowe, and Lord Harry (Earl of Southampton). They are both agent provocateurs for the Earl of Essex. After Marlowe's death by stabbing, Shakespeare replaces Marlowe as Master Playmaker, and is established with Lord Harry as Patron. Rosie, a servant in Lord Harry's household, wins Will's affections and Will is infatuated. The plot to usurp the throne by Essex and Southampton is thwarted by Will, who finds that Rosie is employed by the two Earls to spy for them. Will abandons them and returns to his true friends in the theatre, but goes back to Stratford to finish his plays.
