WRETCH

by Angus Cerini

Wretch looks at the relationship between a mother and her son, at love in all its ugly and brilliant forms. Set within visiting hour in the juvenile detention facility where he is living, the young man struggles to comprehend the manner of his crimes while she tentatively tries to reconcile her own story.

'It is Cerini's language that gives this play its real strength. Language becomes inchoate, almost mythic, as it is stripped back to instinctive and subliminal expression... With its confident construction and complex characterisation, Wretch represents a impressive development for Angus Cerini.' Martin Ball, The Age, Feb 2009
