VAN M
by Nicholas HasluckAmsterdam, 1947. The controversial artist Hans van Meegeren, known as Van M, has been arrested and is to be prosecuted for selling famous art works to the Nazis. Van M defends himself by saying that works supposedly by Vermeer are forgeries that he created before the war to hoax the renowned but much detested critic Bredius. The interrogation leads inevitably to questions concerning the loss of artistic integrity.
