LITTLE RED
by Barry Kay
Little Red places the classic fairytale of Little Red Riding Hood into a modern context of youth party culture and risk-taking. The original fairytale was written as a warning to young people, especially girls, to do as they are told, don’t take risks, or suffer dire consequences. In a highly physical, theatrical, ensemble-style piece, Little Red gives a modernized version of the classic story, with various sub-plots exploring issues of risk-taking and youth culture.
The play was developed with Year10 drama students at Ballarat Grammar school. It is an ensemble piece, and cast size and gender ratio can vary greatly.
