SKETCHES OF HARRY
by Edwina TooheyAt the age of 42, Henry Lawson has achieved considerable acclaim as a writer. In spite of this, he is continually destitute, and only the loyalty of his many friends helps him to survive. His battle with alcoholism ends with his death at 55. The play gives a colourful and lively account of incidents in Lawson's life which gave rise to some of his best poems, (here set to music), against a background of life in Australia at the time. Music is published in "The Songs of Henry Lawson" compiled by Chris Kempster.
