DERELICT WOMAN

by Susan Rogers

The woman, the city, the individual, the fine line and the absence of dereliction in the womans voice allow me to push against the expected and ask questions of myself and the audience. It is a piece of images and I hope they would be carried away and pondered long after the performance. We make such assumptions about others and about how others see us and all the while we are rushing blindly from day to day. This woman, this city, this individual, this every-person says '....I walk past you, cross in front, and my shadow joins yours, yet you see nothing. The pitch of my song makes you shudder.' This is a fragment of life in a city, and yet momentous because she has started to speak. Why?
