WAITING FOR MARLENE

by Jean Holkner

Jessica is in her sixties and worried that she is about to be 'dumped' in a nursing home. In the hospital waiting room she meets Laurel, a volunteer, and an unlikely friendship develops. Another patient, Joe, is the unwitting cause for change in the way each woman sees her life. The play presents a view of older people that is not the usual cliche of the crumbling away of brain, body and spirit. The character of Jessica illustrates that given the chance, older people can continue to live a creative and fulfilling life.
