CURTAINS FOR BIGGLES

by Simon Luckhurst

The famous fictional aviator, Biggles, is now over 100 years old and on his death bed in the Baron Manfred von Richthofen haven for old pilots. As he lies there, he is visited by the ghosts of his long dead companions: Algy, Ginger, Bertie and his wily German adversary Eric von Stalhein. These visitations cause him to reappraise his role in world affairs, questioning his dedication to the way of life he was brought up to believe in. Ultimately, it is the arrival of a contemporary figure which allows him a final insight.

Curtains for Biggles is funny and poignant, and an ideal virtuoso one-act play for an actor and shadow puppeteer, with a small female role. It is designed so that it can be performed on the same bill as the author's one-woman one-act play Discovering Juliet.
