MAGPIE EULOGY: A/WAKE
by B. J. Schurmann
The sudden death of her friend Marguerite prompts Maggie to recollect their friendship. These sparks of memory touch on ideas of duality, attachment to place, what is shared and what is yet to be reconciled. The play weaves elements of dream, indigenous dance and magpie stories into the lives of two women from different sides of the Yarra. It also attempts to recognise and honour the indigenous spirit inherent in Australia.
It should be performed as collaboration between a theatre group and an indigenous dance group.
