Victorian Premier's Literary Awards shortlist
Shortlist announced by the Wheeler Centre
The shortlisted plays in the drama category of the Victorian Premier's Literary Awards have been announced.
There are five annual award categories (fiction, non-fiction, drama, poetry, young adult) each with a prize of $25 000. The winners of each of these five award categories will also be in the running for the major prize, the 2012 Victorian Prize for Literature, the most valuable literary award in the country.
The nominees for the Louis Esson Prize for Drama are:
National Interest by Aidan Fennessy
Signs are held up at various points throughout – ‘fiction’, ‘fact’ and conjecture’ – reflecting the way the story has been told, and the ways in which what really happened to Tony Stewart and his companions can still only be guessed at. Read more

A Golem Story by Lally Katz
The play is rich with philosophy and humour, and while it marks a departure from Katz’s usual oeuvre, it is not out of place with the fractured fantasies of her past works. Read more

Boxman by Daniel Keene
This powerful one-man play is designed to be performed in an intimate space, with the actor speaking directly to the audience. Read more
