Emma the Greek

EXTRACT: In the two weeks that me and my father and my two brothers are lost at sea, we floated a great distance. At one time on the tenth day, a large wave smashed a hole in the side and we had to take turns sitting on that bench and blocking it with our backs, and with our bottoms. I felt scared whenever it was my turn—my bottom was like bait I thought, for something in the sea. I did not wish my bottom to be eaten. They call me Emma the Greek, but I am not Greek.
