Face it – we’re shit

When the 2011 statistics were sent to me, I was astounded. I thought that couldn’t be. I know our female playwrights, I know how good they are. I’ve read them. I know their level of craft. Why in hell aren’t they putting us on?

SHIT by Patricia Cornelius

SHIT is the story of three women who (in Cornelius’ words) don’t believe in anything. They’re mean, down mouthed, down trodden, hard bit, utterly damaged women. They’re neither salt of the earth nor sexy. They love no one and no one loves them. They believe the world is shit, that their lives are shit, that they are shit. They fight, they tease and they laugh. This play is vicious, distressing and outrageously and unexpectedly funny. One of the great new works of 2015.

Performance Making in a Violent World

My name is Rani Pramesti and I am a performance maker and intercultural producer. I work predominantly with women to inspire conversations, self-reflection and social change. My work gives audiences and communities transformative experiences through intimate and insightful stories by and with women of diverse cultural backgrounds. Many years before I even considered jumping headlong into the arts, I trained and worked as a social worker in various inner-city Sydney homeless shelters.
