Donna Abela


Donna Abela has written over 20 plays for audiences of all ages. They have been heard on radio, and performed in theatres great and small, schools, museums, youth theatres, community centres, schools of arts, town halls, and in a semi-derelict power station.

Her plays include Fathom (nominated 2006 Prix Italia International Competition for Radio Television & Web), Tales From The Arabian Nights (shortlisted for 2005 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards; nominated for 2005 Children’s Theatre AWGIE Award), The Rood Screen (Honourable Mention 2004 New Works of Merit Playwriting Contest USA), The Daphne Massacre (shortlisted Sydney Theatre Company's 2000 Patrick White Award), and Highest Mountain Fastest River (Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission Award for Drama 1992).

Donna is part of the 7-ON playwrights' group, along with Verity Laughton, Vanessa Bates, Hilary Bell, Noelle Janaczewska, Ned Manning and Catherine Zimdahl. Their blog can be found here.
