In 1986 Barbara Fern was Director of the Port Pirie Youth Theatre, where she was asked to write a musical play for over thirty children, aged from nine to sixteen, in honour of South Australia’s sesquicentenary. She created Off to the Colliney for a three-night season in the Keith Mitchell Theatre.
Barbara has worked in Taiwan, teaching Conversational English, and in Sydney, teaching Adult Literacy and English for migrants. In 1999 she published a book of short stories, and has also had some poems published. She is a member of the NSW Writers Centre, the Poets Union and the New Writers Group. She does black and white illustration, and water-colours.
