Catherine McKinnon


Catherine McKinnon is a playwright and novelist. In 2019, a five-hour play version of her novel Storyland (Harper Collins, 2017) was commissioned by Merrigong Theatre, to be directed by Leland Keen. Storyland was shortlisted for the 2018 Miles Franklin Award, the 2018 Barbara Jefferis Award, and the 2018 Voss Literary Prize. She is one of the multi-authors of 100 Atmospheres: Studies in Scale and Wonder (Open Humanities Press, 2019), a book about climate change. In 2018 her play Hurt was nominated for an AWGIE award. Hurt was directed by Kim Hardwick, for Whitebox Theatre. Catherine was co-winner of the Griffith Review: Tall Tales Short – The Novella Project 111 award in 2015. Her plays have been produced nationally and her short stories, reviews and essays have appeared in Transnational Literature, Text Journal, RealTime, Narrative, Sydney Morning Herald, Meanjin and the Griffith Review. Recently, she edited Adelaide Festival: 60 Years (Wakefield Press, 2020). Catherine teaches creative writing and performance at the University of Wollongong and is a co-director of UOW’s C3P research centre.
