Melita Rowston

Melita is a writer, director and performer. She is one of Sydney’s exciting new wave of theatre makers, acclaimed for her directing, performance and dramaturgical skills, and drawing accolades for her writing.

Melita is a graduate of VCA (BA -Fine Arts), NIDA (Directing) and UTS (MA – Creative Writing).

Assistant Director to the Opera Project, 2001, Assistant Director to Barrie Kosky, There is No Need to Wake Up, (Olympic Arts Festival, Sydney Opera House) 2000.

Melita’s plays include Crushed, (New Theatre/Chester Productions/Spare Room) 2012, The Diver S&S prize winner 2008, SPEW (Darlinghurst Theatre) 2004, Sugarbomb (TRS) 2004, Solitude in Blue (Griffin Stablemates) 2002, Swing Girl (Griffin Stablemates) 2001 and Night Reflections (NIDA) 2000. Melita was a resident playwright at Griffin Theatre Company in 2005/06.

Melita performs one-woman theatrical monologues/lectures: Six Degrees of Ned Kelly (Time Machine Festival@Serial Space) 2012 and The Wonder from DownUnder: Gippsland’s Giant Worm (to be performed in Melbourne, August, 2013).
