Barbara Hostalek first attended Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company’s Writers group in 2015 and has written several short plays every year since with the dramaturgy support of Polly Low. The short works titled; Cracked (2015), Banned (2016), Go Fish (2017), Turtle Pool (2018), Thirst (2019) and Squatter (2020)
Black Swan State Theatre Company will premiere Own Way (2019) as part of the 2020 Program within Unsung Heroes a series of Home grown solo stories celebrating everyday West Australians who have done extraordinary things.
Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company produced Cracked in May 2019 with the support of Playwriting Australia’s Ignition program. Cracked is being adapted by Barbara collaborating with graphic artist Rubeun Yorkshire to transform the script into a graphic novel as part of Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company’s Solidarity Project Series.
Banned premiered at the Blue Room Theatre as part of Fringeworld Summer Nights program in 2018 and enjoyed a second season during NAIDOC week celebrations later that year.
