Michael Gurr (1961-2017) wrote plays, screenplays, poetry and political commentary. He also directed for the theatre and taught acting. He was Artistic Counsel at Playbox for three years, running the Theatre in the Raw play development program. In 1995 he travelled to Vietnam as part of an Australian Cultural Delegation, and was a presenter of ABC Radio National’s arts and entertainment program Nightclub in 2002. Michael was also a political activist for causes such as asylum seekers in Australia. He also worked with the Australian Labor Party as a speech writer. He won a number of awards, including four state Literary Awards for Drama. His work has been produced Australia-wide and in the UK and the USA.
