SOLITAIRE

by Chris Dickins

Solitaire is a collection of 12 monologues for a single female performer, drawn from several full-length plays and a new short play written especially for this project, The Daughter of Veronica Leigh. The monologues range from a selection from Torch based on the life of Judy Garland through to an old bag-lady named Swannie, who sells the Football Record outside AFL games; to a never performed 10 minute solo based on a migrant Italian lady who loves dancing and Dean Martin – Arriverdici Roma. There is a much-performed solo from a show called Soliloquoy called The Bride in the Belltower. The new work tells the story of a young girl whose mother is a famous stage actress and who spends her time imitating her mother in the great female roles of the theatre.
