We Are Survivors premiered in the Peacock Theatre, Hobart in 1984 for the Salamanca Arts Festival. It was re-produced the following year in Hobart and Launceston. It was the playwright's Tasmanian response to Jack Davis' ground-breaking play, The Dreamers. He was so moved after seeing it that he went home and wrote his first full length play in a single afternoon. We Are Survivors is a raw and clear-eyed portrayal of the circumstances facing Tasmanian Aboriginal people in the post World War II years and the forces which shaped their emerging political activism.
