"Chook" Fowler, ex country and western singer, now middle-aged lost soul, is caught between the bushman/digger mythology of his father and the contemporary self-promotional model represented by his daughter and her American music star husband. The family conflict is particularly underpinned by their attitude to "the land".
Chook confronts both a past he believes wasted and lack of a future when three generations of the family return to Tamworth for the annual Country Music Festival.
