Inspired by the true story of little known Point Puer boys' prison at Port Arthur, this gripping drama focusses on a group of young convicts who are trying to survive prison life. Point Puer was the British government's first ever attempt at any form of rehabilitation of young prisoners. The concept was to separate the boys from the adults and to teach the boys a trade.
A young convict Jeremiah is brought into the group and Red, the group leader, must now face new challenges and power struggles. Hawkins is the guard who has a connection with Red and is torn between looking out for this group and punishing them as expected by the prison system.
There are moments of comedy in the play as the boys act as typical teenagers but it turns quickly to violence as circumstances change. Fully researched through archives at Port Arthur this fascinating story takes the audience on a riveting emotional journey.
