UNDER MY BED is a visual theatre play about freedom and survival from family and domestic violence. Joni secretly endures a venomous relationship until she learns her child, Alex, is at risk. When they attempt to leave, met with resistance and ridicule, it is clear they have no choice but to fight all alone for their lives. UNDER MY BED explores metaphorical themes of staying afloat, swimming upstream, and fear of drowning, with its rich use of deep water imagery, puppetry and physical theatre. This magic realism work explores images of video projection with potential for black light theatre and animation that allow the audience to view multi-worlds simultaneously.
UNDER MY BED is supported by ArtsACT and received a 3-tiered development in 2017 with supporting partners Gorman Arts Centre (AGAC) and Canberra Youth Theatre.
