DRAPES

by Stephen House

In a ramshackle inner city house, an elderly woman, her harried daughter and damaged grandson struggle to find their place in the sun. Into the equation are thrown the latest in a string of "fiances" and flamboyant Babe, former actress, whore, lesbian. "Drapes" cosy little family of characters operates as a metaphoric gathering of all the emotional and personal connections mainstream society has with gay people but refuses to acknowledge. Gay children, gay parents, gay grandparents do exist, how do you deal with it - close the drapes and hide away, or open up and get on with life?

Winner of a 2000 Adelaide Fringe award
