THE BALLAD OF RACHEL CORRIE

by Henry di Suvero

In April 2003 an Israeli bulldozer killed Rachel Corrie, an American student pacifist, as she was protesting the demolition of a house in the Rafah refugee camp in Gaza, Palestine. In the play, which is based on this true story, the daughters of the two families, the Corries of Olympia, Washington State, and the Cohens of Tel Aviv, Israel, become tragically intertwined when the Israeli girl is called up to reserve duty and given the task of driving a bulldozer.
